The Cogentus Framework
The Cogentus Framework was developed to help organisations make better decisions by:
- Bringing structure & reducing complexity
- Improving stakeholder buy–in
- Creating a common language
- Increasing commitment to action
The framework consists of four simple steps:
- Cog 1 Configure – problem structuring; objectives, success criteria, who needs to be involved, benefits and scope.
- Cog 2 Consolidate – capture and record data to enable measurements and comparison.
- Cog 3 Conclude – analyse the results from alternative perspectives and agree the decision.
- Cog 4 Confirm – monitor and review the benefits realisation, implement change control.
To implement the framework there are three key ingredients:
- A systematic process that is auditable, traceable and consistent.
- A delivery team which works in a group environment to build a common understanding across multiple disciplines and expertise.
- Specialist software to help capture, record and analyse the information.
The framework is designed to be flexible to cope with many types of decisions. The timescale ranges from 2–3 days to several months depending on the degree of complexity and quantity of information.
