It uses a MCDA (multi criteria decision analysis) engine that can aggregate Financial data with Non Financial data. More specifically it is used to value this data such that you can compare the benefits of different things.
It is a very powerful tool for the largest of problems, yet easy enough to use for relatively simple ones too.
Some of the basic features are:
- Mind Mapping - the capability that allows users to visually express both criteria and options. You won't need another mind mapping application as you can add images, notes, attachments and links to enrich the map.
- Value Hierarchies - the ability to draw criteria in the form of a hierarchy (or tree) with as many nodes or topics as needed.
- Criteria Properties - the ability to define the criteria in detail. What are the measurements (quantitative and qualitative), what's the scale and how is it valued? There a 7 preset mapping types including a custom mapping.
- Weights - the ability to enter weights either bottom up (for individual criteria) or top down (for nodes)
- Option Hierarchies - the ability to group options into categories to aid sorting.
- Scoring - the ability to enter results directly into a table or as a scorecard.
- Results - multiple ways to view the results from bar charts (best score overall) to scatter charts (costs vs. benefits) and to see which criteria is driving the result.

- Looking at the effect of weights on a single criteria and carrying out "what-if" analysis to determine robustness.
