UK-US Information Exchange
Cogentus will be carrying out work on behalf of the DoE to compare technology development activities being carried out in the UK with those ongoing in the US. The aim is to identify synergies, overlaps and gaps in the DoE technology development program.
The US DOE and the UK NDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding in March 2007 in which both parties agreed that there was mutual benefit in working together and sharing information in developing and applying technologies and approaches to needs in a number of areas including cleanup, D&D and GNEP.
There is a growing appreciation that, with decreasing technology development budgets and increasing pressure on completing the cleanup mission as quickly and cost-effectively as possible, there is a greater benefit in collaboration and joint Technology Development & Deployment, (TDD) efforts between the parties. With that in mind, Cogentus, in conjunction with NuVision Engineering, has been approached to play a role in facilitating cooperation and identifying areas where focused effort could bring the greatest return for the Environmental Management Program.
The benefits will be:
• Potential for significant cost savings.
• Potential for significant schedule improvements.
• Potential for avoiding ‘reinventing the wheel’ through knowledge share.
• Opportunities to make more effective technology options selections.
• Development of network contacts in the engineering community.
The information exchange will codify project activities and index the technologies used. It will then be possible to identify synergies, overlaps and gaps by searching the database.
