Lessons Learned System Just Added!

What are the Changes?
We have created a new area in the Idea Catalog for Lessons Learned. The objective was to identify genuine ‘operational’ lessons learned/learning from D&D projects worldwide through a combination of literature searches, conference proceeding reviews and with one-to-one interviews with practitioners.

What are the Benefits?
Deactivation & Decommissioning (D&D) is a major component of cleanup missions. As a result, there is a clear need for the development and implementation of technologies and approaches which lead to faster, safer and more cost-effective decommissioning of facilities. One aspect of this need is developing new approaches and technologies (and this is the purpose of the existing technology catalogs), but another is ensuring that the lessons learned from previous D&D efforts are shared among D&D practitioners to ensure that money and time is not spent unnecessarily ‘reinventing the wheel’ or conducting activities in a manner that have previously been shown to be either ineffective or inefficient (or both). This database is intended to improve the capture and dissemination of lessons learned to improve knowledge. It collates such lessons learned in a standard format that can be filtered, sorted and searched. Information from D&D projects around the world will be added regularly and we will soon be adding the capability for users to add their own lessons learned to the database.

What do you need to do?
You access this area either through the top navigation (“Lists”) or via a new Dashboard that is also accessed on the top navigation (next to favourites). It works like a technology catalog - click into an entry to see further information. Users on the Standard Plan can view the records but you need to be on the Premium Plan to narrow the selection down (using categories and tags) or use a search term. Always start with the former as it will give you more precise results.

What are the Changes?
We have migrated the codebases from Kubernetes to Cloud Run. Users will not notice any changes but it will mean the system can perform more quickly as the user base expands.

Significantly Improved Search Capability

What are the Changes?
We have made a major upgrade to the search capability. The search engine is built on apache lucene and provides full text search throughout the system. It indexes all entities in all catalogs including the contents of each tab (insights, videos and files). It is fast searching and works by determining the best relevance to your search terms - the entries with the highest relevance are displayed first.

What do you need to do?
If you have already registered you do not have to do anything. Just login with your email address and password.

Who's Impacted?
All Users.

What are the Changes?
The system has been completely rewritten from the ground up. The new database backend is faster, unrestricted in size and more secure. The new system has been designed to efficiently add new features that are planned for 2020 and 2021.

The front end has a completely new look and feel. There is a significantly enhanced filtering system to help narrow down potential ideas, two factor authentication for improved security, more extensive insights and a host of other additional features.

What do you need to do?
If you have already registered you do not have to do anything. Just login with your email address and password.

If you haven't yet registered, just go to the site and complete the form. It is completely free. All registrations will have 10 days access to Premium features (such as Insights, Library, Videos and Filtering) before reverting to Standard. Standard subscribers will still give you access to the thousands of entries - just not in as much detail as if you were a Premium subscriber.
